Welcome to TickSnap, providing unique views of various subjects through the use of time lapse, still photos, real-time video, audio, and a few other tricks.
TickSnap's Current Focus is RAGBRAI XXXIV (2006). If you have never heard of RAGBRAI, the word is an acronym for the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. "Register" is short for the "Des Moines Register" newspaper, and is the organization who's members founded the 7 day ride which occurs each year during the last full week of July. See the official RAGBRAI website at www.ragbrai.org.

Portions of RAGBRAI XXXIV were captured from a bicycle's-eye point of view. Two cameras running simultaneously covered the front and rear views from the bike. Video footage was recorded primarily as time lapse, but several hours were also recorded in real-time or near real-time. The sounds of RAGBRAI were recorded digitally in high fidelity stereo. A GPS logged the ride's progression, making it possible for captured content to be mapped to where it occurred. A 2 meter HAM radio was occasionally used for communication. Power to run these devices, as often as possible during the weeklong event, was provided by a photovoltaic solar panel and battery. |
To view movies on this site, click the picture associated with the movie you want to see to begin the download process. Typically there will be a delay as the movie downloads and before it begins to play. Because most movies are fairly large, downloads may take several minutes even with a nice high speed connection. To get a rough idea of how long the downloads will take, try viewing a small movie first. If a 3MB movie takes 2 minutes to download, expect a 9MB movie to take about three times as long. Once downloaded, the movie may begin playing in your media player of choice. Most content found at this site has been played on recent versions of Apple QuickTime or Windows Media Player at some point during its development.
